One of the most beautiful cowry shells we have put our hands on. The Cypraea Helvola, the common name Honey cowry or eyed cowry is a species of sea snail, a cowry, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Cypraeidae, the cowries that feed on polyps on coral reefs. It is found in the Indo-Pacific region and also around the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. Cyprea or Cowry shells are active at night and hide during daylight. They feed on algae near coral reefs.
Honey cowries are absolutely stunning with a speckled beige to brown pattern and once polished, it is very smooth and shiny. These eye cowries are small shells that have been used in all sorts of crafts for centuries; from diy jewelry making and shell crafts like mirrors, lamps, and musical instruments among others. Some cultures also trade them as money; some consider them a symbol of fertility and are often offered to a bride as a gift to ensure fertility. They are colorful shells that work well for making jewelry such as pendants and earrings in native crafts. If you‘re a shell collector, you must have some of them in your collection.
All of our cowrie sea shells are hand selected and they are truly beautiful, we pick the most stunning and close-to-perfection cowrie shells and if you need bulk shells, contact us.
