Multicolor African Ghana Krobo Glass Donuts - Saucer Beads, 10-12mm / Translucent Glass Beads, Clear Frost Ghana Glass Beads for Beading / Jewelry Supplies

Be aware, these look just like candied jelly donuts, but they're made of glass. How beautiful are they? These glass beads are traditional glass beads from Ghana and are often referred to as Krobo Glass Beads. These glass beads are made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items found and brought to the area they call Kroboland. The glass bottles and other glass items are sorted, washed and dried, and then broken into small fragments for the bead-making to commence.

The glass is pounded with a metal mortar and pestle and sieved to get very fine powder in order to make the glass beads. I first thought the colors were from the recycled glass itself, which I believe some are, but my supplier also told me that sometimes they use ceramic powder dye to add different colors to the glass before shaping them into beads. Please note, each bead is unique and 100% handmade. Zoom in the pictures for close-ups and further details.

These are almost too beautiful to use... almost. They're so smooth and gorgeous and shiny that I keep running my fingers through them, like the treasure they are... but they'll make a gorgeous trim on my "mermaid bag", made with the beautiful aquamarine tilapia leather I bought these with.
